AI for Insurance Agents: It Writes the Draft, You Hit Send
One practical use of AI for insurance agents is drafting a text or email from the conversation already in front of them. You review the facts, add what the tool could not know and choose to send. Prices and coverage stay with your verified quoting process.
Consider this hypothetical text:
“I’m at work until six. Can you text me a price?”
They asked for text and gave you timing context. They haven’t said whether they want a reply now or after six. You also need to know whether you have enough information to quote.
That is where lead generation, marketing and software meet. You paid for an opportunity to have a conversation. The next reply needs to show that you understood the person’s request.
A draft needs an agent’s judgment before it becomes a message. Who checks the price? Who adds the agreement made on the phone? Who decides whether asking for a call fits this person’s request?
GOAT CRM is announced for Wednesday, October 14 at noon ET, with AI Assist reply drafts. This is a preview of that assistance. You can use the reply habit with your current tools today.
Four goals give the draft a job
When AI Assist is available in your account, open a conversation, choose SMS or Email and pick one of four goals. Each gives the model instructions. The wording it produces can vary.
Speed-to-lead: introduce you, acknowledge the request and ask for a good time for a short call today.
Follow up: pick up the conversation, restate the next step in one line and ask one question that moves it forward.
Objection handler: respond to hesitation about budget or timing with empathy, without pressure, and offer options to compare.
Book appointment: propose a short call and offer morning or afternoon windows.
There’s no blank prompt box to fill in. You choose the job.
For our example, Follow up is a useful starting point. Review any suggestion of a call against the person’s request for text. Book appointment drafts the request; it does not book an appointment or establish your availability.
What AI Assist can see
The composer uses your name and selected lead facts: first name, requested coverage, state, the person’s age, pipeline stage and how long ago the request came in, when available. That includes context about an aged GOAT lead.
It also uses up to 12 recent SMS and email messages, with limited text from each. That gives it conversation context, rather than the full history.
Three boundaries matter:
Notes are excluded. Your note about an agreement is not automatically part of the draft.
Call records are excluded. A conversation on the phone does not become something the composer knows.
Dedicated phone and email fields are omitted. Contact details typed into recent messages may still be included.
If something important happened on a call or lives in your notes, put it in when you edit.
The controls and the instructions do different work
Two parts are enforced in the product:
It drafts. You send. The reply is returned to the composer. Generation does not send it. You choose to send through the available controls.
The generated SMS draft is capped at 300 characters. That cap applies to the returned draft, not your later edits or the number of billed SMS segments.
The model also receives instructions to use supplied facts, avoid invented prices, carriers and coverage amounts, and never claim that a quote was sent or an appointment was booked. It is instructed to use plain, friendly first-person language without hype or emojis. Email drafts are instructed to include a subject and a few short paragraphs.
Those instructions shape the response. They cannot make every response correct.
Read every draft anyway. AI can still get things wrong, and your name is on the message.
Turn the draft into a useful next step
For the hypothetical text above, an agent-written reply could be:
Text works. I need a few details before I can give you an accurate price. Would you like me to text those questions now or after 6 tonight?
This is an editing example, not captured AI output. It respects the channel, explains what is missing and asks one clear question. If you already have the information, use your quoting process and move to the appropriate next step.
Before sending, ask:
Did I answer what they asked?
Is every fact one I have confirmed?
Is the next step clear?
For an agency owner, broker or IMO leader, those are useful review questions for your team’s drafts too. A polished sentence can still contain the wrong price or omit a promise made on a call.
What AI Assist costs
AI Assist comes with paid GOAT CRM; generating drafts is separately billed usage. Charges come from the CRM wallet based on the tokens used. The composer displays an estimated draft cost and available CRM funds. Check that an estimate is available when planning your spend.
If a draft needs a small change, edit it. Another generation is another usage request.
What is still Coming Soon
Knowledge answers are a separate planned tool for asking the GOAT knowledge library and seeing its source document. The current target is before November 1. AI Calling, AI Texting and AI Emailing are also Coming Soon, outside the October 14 launch. These are roadmap plans.
Choose leads for the conversations you can handle
GOAT publishes the checks applied before a submission reaches an order, including duplicate patterns and invalid phone numbers. Clear standards help you evaluate a vendor. Working the inquiry thoughtfully is the next responsibility.
You can use the reply habit today with your current tools. Set your order volume around the time your team has to answer, review and follow through. For the first contact, my first-five-minutes playbook gives you a place to start.
Compare GOAT lead types and pricing, choose a manageable volume and measure your own conversations and outcomes. You don’t need to wait for the CRM launch to respond.
FAQ
