Meet Mike “Chris” Blackburn
Chris is GOAT Leads’ Director of Systems Architecture, and he has been engineering the foundation under this platform since March 2025. Before that, he spent 35 years building systems that scale — delivering technical solutions to companies large and small since 1990.
Think about what that number means. Chris was architecting production systems before the web existed — through the client-server era, the rise of the internet, the shift to the cloud, mobile, and now AI. Every one of those transitions wrecked companies whose foundations couldn’t adapt, and Chris spent each one as the engineer who kept the systems underneath standing. There is no shortcut to that kind of judgment. You can’t prompt your way to it, and you can’t hire it cheap — there are only so many people alive who have it.
His resume reads like a tour of American infrastructure. At Fortune 500 enterprises like GE and Sprint, he worked at a scale where a bad architectural decision costs millions and downtime makes the news. At household names like OfficeMax and VF Corporation — the apparel giant behind brands you’re wearing right now — he built for relentless retail volume. At RentPath, he engineered for millions of consumers hitting a marketplace at once; at Rallyhood, for communities that live on the platform daily. And at Fidelity Life, he did it right here in our industry — life insurance — where he learned firsthand what agents, carriers, and compliance demand of a system.
Through Midwire Technologies, the consultancy he founded, Chris became the senior architect companies call when a system has to grow without breaking: scaling engagements, high-availability builds, security hardening, legacy modernizations where a decades-old platform has to be rebuilt in flight without a day of downtime. That is the hardest work in software — and it’s a rare specialty precisely because you only get good at it by doing it for decades.
What does that judgment look like in practice? Chris publishes his engagement numbers.
